Kindergarten Readiness

Learn the Facts

The foundation for learning is laid well before a child enters kindergarten.  Research tells us that the pre-kindergarten years provide crucial opportunities for parents, educators, and caregivers to influence children’s growth and development.  When preparing children for kindergarten, a positive attitude toward school and education will give a child the confidence to enter into this new experience with an excitement for learning.

Getting children familiar with what school will be like, and the expectations of school, will help the transition go much smoother and contribute to the ultimate goal of school success.

Helping a young child become prepared emotionally, socially, and mentally to enter kindergarten is one of the most important things a parent, caregiver, or educator can do.  This preparation and involvement will have lasting benefits. With so many children living in poverty or in single parent or two-income families, less time is often available to help children get ready to enter school.  Caregivers, childcare providers, and educators can, and do, serve a valuable role in helping young children develop the social and emotional competencies needed for them to begin their academic journey.
